Lots of cakes!

Over the last month, I have started getting an increasing number of cake orders. (Whether that's because more of my family members have birthdays this time of year, who knows :p )
Hopefully I'll build up my client base to where I'm doing cakes more often, but for now, I'm having fun practicing and building my skills.
I did branch out of the family for a Super Bowl party at the MIS department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania--those are the last 2 cakes in the pictures.
Enjoy!

finding an inner strength

So neither Chris or I have posted on this blog for a couple of months. Why? Well, just the typical excuses...too busy, kids are up late, too busy with the kids, and the too busy excuses continue. Yeah, it's a bunch of crap. But I hope to change that.
So although I'm not going to post any pictures right now, I am going to tell you a little bit about why I think new years resolutions actually are better than people think.
My new years resolutions (yes, plural) are similar to other years: get healthy, lose that baby weight that has been hanging around since Maddie was born, be more mindful of what I do on a daily basis. I also added my new resolution: to read more. I've made it a point to read anything--journals, cookbooks, web blogs, wikipedia stuff, fiction, non-fiction, health books, whatever. And I've actually kept this resolution so far. Which leads me to why I think resolutions are okay. Because of my more realistic (and maybe a little more atypical) resolution, I've learned a lot about what I need to do to keep the rest of my resolutions. I started reading "one minute wellness" last night. Mostly because it was the last book on my shelf that I hadn't read. It begins with a story about Elijah, a boy with lung problems that have kept him from leading a normal life since he was a baby. And because it's story with chiropractic advocacy as a theme, the boy starts to live a normal life after trying chiropractic care (rather reluctantly). But chiropractic aside, the story is about finding the reasons why you want to live a healthy, fulfilling life. And finding the strength to go after those reasons with everything you have. Because, if you can't live life to the fullest, why live at all? It seems like a waste, doesn't it?
I plan on keeping my resolutions, and adding a couple of new ones: to keep looking for a fresh perspective on everything I consider important in life. To find what truly makes me happy and to go after it. I'm going to make this one-time trip through life the best I possibly can.
That said, I'm going to the health food store today.

Maddie's Birthday Party and Pine Ridge Park

Although Charynn is a little slow at posting, as promised here are some pictures from Maddie's 2nd birthday party, and also some pictures from a week ago when we took her out to Pine Ridge Park.
She had an absolute blast at her birthday party, and especially enjoyed opening her presents and blowing out her candles. As opposed to last year, when she was frightened of everyone watching/singing to her, she loved the attention that the birthday party brought to her spoiled little self. She entertained everyone with a little jam session after opening her Hannah Montana guitar (and could have started a band with Clarissa or Charlie, because Auntie Charelle bought her the Hannah Montana keyboard too!). Charynn decorated the house with life-sized Mickey Mouse Clubhouse characters, and even made a clubhouse for the fireplace. She was excited that everyone thought that she bought the decorations :) Thanks to everyone who came and made Madelyn's party so special!
As for Pine Ridge Park...the kids and Charynn met Chris there for lunch last Friday. It was supposed to warm up a little, but the temperature hovered around 45 degrees, which was a little chilly for the baby's outfit. So Keaton camped out in the carseat covered with a blanket and watched his sister run around the playground and park. It was a beautiful day with the leaves changing, so Charynn decided to take a bunch of pictures to add to our fall collection. Enjoy!

11 October 2008

i'm quitting my job and i'm going to start planning kids birthday parties.

i am putting the finishing touches together for maddie's mickey mouse clubhouse party tomorrow, and i baked her cake today. i came up with the idea of making the clubhouse out of floral styrofoam shapes and covered them with icing to look like cake..so i thought i'd put a picture on here...sometimes i impress myself *snickering* ...

Chris' Birthday

Today is Chris' birthday. This is Chris typing too so I guess the third person usage can stop. Anyway, we took a bunch of pictures of the kids. We keep watching Keaton to see when he is going to start really crawling. Today he started moving his legs with his arms but he kind of does the worm not true crawling. He has gotten really good at barrel rolling to get to where he wants.
Maddie is going well too. She has learned a bunch of words and can now tell you she will be two and then show you with her fingers how old she is. Otherwise the kids keep Charynn and I busy and we try to be as involved with them as we can. I keep telling Charynn that we are making little geniuses and she laughs at me and tells me we are just making happy kids. I will stop the rambling now. I must have gotten wore out with the celebrating today so look for new posts soon.

Some more pictures...
